Muscat (TDI): Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday began a two-day visit to Oman, which is mediating ongoing nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States.
Pezeshkian arrived in Muscat, saying that he was looking to promote “peace and stability”, two days after US President Donald Trump described the latest talks as “very, very good”.
In a televised speech before leaving Tehran, Pezeshkian stated, “We hope to engage in talks to reach a shared perspective and a common voice on promoting peace and stability in the region.”
A statement from Iran’s presidency noted that Pezeshkian called on Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and told him Iran appreciated Oman’s mediation in the negotiations and hoped that this process will lead to positive outcomes.
Oman has mediated five rounds of negotiations between Tehran and Washington, which do not have diplomatic ties.

Although the latest round of talks in Rome, Italy, on Friday ended without tangible progress, the discussions were appreciated by President Trump.
Trump said that he is hopeful to receive some good news from Iran, saying that an announcement could come “over the next two days”.
Washington is trying to prevent Tehran from developing nuclear weapons – which Iran denies seeking – as the Iranians seek relief from massive sanctions.

The negotiations are the highest-level contact between the two arc-rivals since Washington withdrew from previous nuclear deal during Trump’s first term.
Before Pezeshkian’s trip, Iran’s central bank governor Mohammadreza Farzin also arrived in Oman on Monday to discuss “monetary and banking collaboration” and commercial exchanges.
