Flags of Pakistan and Iran

Islamabad, 13 October 2021 (TDI): An Iranian parliamentary delegation comprising of the members of the Pakistan-Iran Parliamentary Friendship Group is on a visit to Pakistan. The delegation is headed by Dr. Ahmad Amirabadi Firhani.

The visit aims to strengthen bilateral parliamentary relations between Pakistan and Iran as well as to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries in diverse sectors.

The delegation met the Interior Minister of Pakistan and Speaker National Assembly.

Meeting with Interior Minister

The Iranian Parliamentary delegation held a meeting with Interior Minister of Pakistan Sheikh Rashid Ahmad. The meeting marked a discussion of matters of mutual interests and regional situations. Both sides also exchanged views on combating terrorism and controlling human movements at the Pak-Iran border.

Speaking on the occasion, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid said Pakistan and Iran relations are strengthened by cultural and religious bonds between the two countries. He said Pakistan highly values its cordial relationship with Iran.

 

In addition, the Interior Minister shared Pakistan’s perspective on the developments in Afghanistan. He said regional, as well as international, stability is linked with durable peace in Afghanistan. He urged the Iranian side to work together for averting a humanitarian crisis in Kabul.

Furthermore, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid said Pakistan will ease travel restrictions for ‘Zaireen’ traveling to Iran.

Head of Iranian Delegation Dr. Ahmad Amirabadi Firhani stated exchange of parliamentary delegations will augment bilateral relations between Pakistan and Iran. He further added the two countries need to step up cooperation in bilateral trade from the current level.
Moreover, Dr. Ahmad expressed sorrow over earthquake in Harnoi, Baluchistan. He also condoled the death of Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, Pakistan’s renowned nuclear scientist.

Both sides agreed to make joint efforts for ensuring peace and stability in Afghanistan. They also conceded to establish a special committee to effectively implement agreements on the exchange of prisoners.

Meeting with Speaker of National Assembly

The Iranian Parliamentary delegation also met with Speaker of National Assembly Asad Qaiser.

Speaker Asad Qaiser said the visit will facilitate bilateral interactions between Pakistan and Iran. He added Members of Parliament can play an effective role in bridging the relations between the two countries. Furthermore, he stated cooperation in trade and energy sectors will                                                                                                   benefit both countries.

The Speaker also iterated the need for unity among ‘Muslim Ummah’ to counter contemporary challenges.

Likewise, the head of Iranian Delegation Ahmad Amirabadi appreciated Pakistan’s role for regional peace and stability. He added Iran wishes to enhance cooperation with Pakistan at all levels

Pakistan and Iran share cordial diplomatic relations based on mutual respect and solidarity. The visit of Iranian delegation will open more avenues for cooperation between the two countries in diverse sectors.
