Iranian Foreign Minister meets his Kuwaiti counterpart

Geneva, 28 February 2024 (TDI): Iranian Foreign Minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian, met with his Kuwaiti counterpart, Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber-Al-Sabah, on the sidelines of Geneva Talks. Bilateral relations between both countries and regional developments were on the meeting agenda.

Iranian Foreign Minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian, extended warm regards to the Emir of Kuwait, Mishal Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and Prime Minister of Kuwait, Mohammed Al-Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah.

Amirabdollahian said that Iran is ready to expand relations with Kuwait in all fields. He expressed the country’s readiness to make a joint commission to work more actively regarding improving relations between the two countries.

Besides the Iran-Kuwait commissions, the Foreign Minister of Iran proposed creating border and consular committees.

Regarding regional developments, Iran expressed its concern over the catastrophe in Gaza Strip. Amirabdollahian stressed that the United States green-lighted the Zionist regime to continue the killings of Palestinians. The US favors the reduction of the intensity of the war instead of the ceasefire.

Also, Iran’s Foreign Minister referred to Iran’s call for an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Countries. He said that it would lead to collective action to end the war waged by the Zionist regime against Palestinians.

For his part, Kuwait’s Foreign Minister extended the greetings of Kuwait’s Emir to the Supreme Leader of Iran and the President of Iran.

Salem Abdullah expressed readiness to activate all joint commissions to improve relations between the two countries. Also, he said that Kuwait’s priority is the expansion of ties with Iran.

Foreign Minister of Kuwait also stressed the importance of holding joint meetings of the countries’ delegations to expand trade ties.

At the end of the meeting, Salem Abdullah outlined his country’s views and efforts to end the war in Gaza and to send humanitarian aid. He thanked Amirabdollahian for inviting him to visit Tehran and noted that the trip would be made when the countries agreed.
