Tehran, 24 June 2022(TDI): The Iranian Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, met for talks.
In their meeting, the two foreign ministers covered a wide variety of topics of interest to both Moscow and Tehran.
The two top diplomats expressed satisfaction with the development of ties. The envoys emphasized the need to implement the agreements reached at the meeting between the presidents of Iran and Russia more quickly.
Additionally, during President Raisi’s visit to Moscow, the dignitaries made agreements between senior economic officials of the two sides.
Among other topics, Amirabdollahian and Lavrov discussed measures to expand commerce. They talked about how to facilitate investment and quicken the execution of collaborative economic ventures.
The two foreign ministers also discussed how they might cooperate to successfully counter unjust sanctions. They also talked about growing banking and financial cooperation, particularly in the energy industry.
Iran-Russia consultation meeting
The two ambassadors discussed regional developments in the South Caucasus, Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria, and Palestine during their discussion.
The upcoming meeting of the three neighbors was further coordinated by Amirabdollahian and Lavrov.
Along with the summit of the presidents of Russia, Turkey, and Iran, the South Caucasus nations will also attend the upcoming gathering. This will happen in Tehran as part of the Astana process.
Lavrov also stated that Russia opposes recent assaults by the Zionist regime against civilian sites in Syria and the airport in Damascus. He also emphasized the importance of defending Syria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Furthermore, the senior Russian diplomat also underlined the support of his nation for the continuation of the 2015 nuclear agreement without any modifications.
Lavrov also provided an update on the most recent events in Ukraine. He emphasized that some Western nations have taken advantage of Ukraine to further their unilateralist policies. The envoy went on to say that this was an attempt by the western nations to undermine Russia.
Moreover, Iranian and Russia foreign ministers discussed expanding Iran’s participation in regional and global organizations and conferences.
These include the BRICS, the Eurasian Economic Union, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. The support of his nation in this matter was emphasized by the Russian foreign minister.
