Tehran (TDI): Foreign Minister of Iran, Abbas Araghchi said that Iran is functional despite the assassination of its major political figures, emphasizing that the institutional structure of the country is built to survive.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has a strong political structure with established political, economic, and social institutions,” Araghchi said. He added, “We have not had anyone more important than the leader himself and even the leader was martyred. Yet the system continued to work and immediately provided a replacement.”
This statement surfaced as the FM spoke with Al Jazeera after the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, was assassinated in a precision airstrike by Israel.
Larijani was one of the key figures in the Tehran security establishment, and his death was later confirmed by the Supreme National Security Council following earlier reports circulating in Israeli and international media.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claim that the attack was part of a wider campaign against Iranian leadership, and that Larijani was killed alongside his son and bodyguards.
In response to the claims of leadership instability, FM Araghchi pointed said, “we have a president, we have a foreign minister, we have a leader. Every pillar of the system is in place, and it emphasizes the continuity of institutions despite targeted killings.”
Addressing the American people, he projected the war as serving US interests, not those of the American people, “The price is being paid by the people of Iran, the people of the region, the people of the United States and ending the war depends on the will of the American people to compel their government to take a wiser path.”
Araghchi stressed that the governance of the country does not rely on individuals but on a system that is very much intact. Tehran perceives the assassination of Larijani as a strategy by the Israelis to weaken Iranian strategic command.
