Iran, Russia join hands to resolve Syrian crisis

Moscow, 12 January 2023 (TDI): The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin had a conversation with his counterpart the President of Iran, Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi on how to work closely to normalize issues in Syria.

The conversation was based on how to find ways to solve the crisis in Syria. It is important to notice that, Russia has a huge interest in Syria and is determined to work for promoting development in the country.

Current issues on the Russian-Iranian agenda were reviewed with an emphasis on the need to continue scaling up bilateral cooperation across the board.

In particular, the Presidents spoke in favor of consistently implementing mutually beneficial projects in energy and logistics.

Turning to international affairs, the President praised the close coordination that has been achieved as part of the Astana process, a key factor in the Syrian settlement process.

This initiative is seeking to solve the territorial issues of Syria. Russia and Iran are key holders in settling the issues of Iran.

Also, support was expressed for continuing to work together closely to normalize the situation in the Syrian Arab Republic and restore the territorial integrity of that country.

Russian President, Vladimir Putin stated that Syria was ignored and this has led to the escalation of the issue, adding that, Russia is determined to ensure that all the issues of the region are solved and peace and unity return to the country.

His counterpart the Iranian President, Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi commended his counterpart for the support they have provided to Syria so far and for seeking to bring peace to the country.

They also discussed high-level delegation meetings to be scheduled for the year. They aim to promote the energy sector development and trade partnership deals in the year.

It is pertinent to note that, Russia and Iran have had a long-standing relationship for all these years and are determined to further it.
