Minsters of Iran and Mauritius meet in Tehran to discuss bilateral relations

Tehran, 15 August 2022 (TDI): Ehsan Khandouzi, Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs of Iran, welcomed Mauritius Minister of Labour, Human Resource Development and Training, Soodesh Satkam Callichurn. The Iranian Minister welcomed his counterpart in Iran on 14 August 2022.

The two leaders met to discuss developing cooperation and mutual investments between Iran and Mauritius. Minister Khandouzi showed the preparedness of Iran to cooperate and invest with Mauritius. The two countries aim to cooperate in areas of advanced technologies in the pharmaceutical industry and nanotechnology.

Minister Khandouzi also declared Iran’s agreement for mutual cooperation between the two countries. This agreement aims to ensure food security for both Iran and Mauritius amid the Russia-Ukraine war.

The agreement also aims to develop Iranian investments in the Republic of Mauritius in the industry of construction and provision of building materials. He also referred to Mauritius as the “gateway” to financial transactions in South Africa.

Furthermore, he emphasized Iran’s determination to enhance cooperation and financial transactions with the South African countries. He also shared that the formation of a joint delegation of Iran and Mauritius will yield an increase in trade.

On the other hand, Minister Callichurn also stressed Mauritius’ desire and commitment to developing trade cooperation and mutual investments with Iran. The two countries also aim to enhance trade, particularly in developing trade exchanges.

Iran and Mauritius’ Memorandum of Understanding

The two countries also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on 15 August 2022. The MoU seeks to provide a platform for joint cooperation in the areas of enhancing investment, especially in export-oriented production, light engineering, agricultural processing, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, free trade ports and logistics, ICT, construction, hoteling, and education.

The MoU will also allow the two countries to share information regarding export opportunities, resources, incentives, and support services. This will in turn facilitate information, research, and market study-related activities. It will also enhance the creation of joint projects, technology transfer as well as the exchange of technical knowledge in the agriculture sector.
