International Equal Pay Day event of Iceland and the OECD

Paris, 22 September 2021 (TDI): Iceland and the OECD hosted an event at the OECD headquarters in Paris on September 18 to mark the second International Equal Pay Day. This is dedicated to equal pay and gender equality in the labor market.

Policymakers and public and private sector representatives gathered to continue enhancing its solutions and policy tools to achieve its goal of equal pay. In particular, their action is centered on emerging technologies and innovative solutions.

Ambassador Unnur Orradóttir-Ramette (Permanent Representative of Iceland to the OECD) and Ambassador Muriel Pénicaud (Permanent Representative of France to the OECD & former Minister of Labour) made their remarks and presentation about the recent equal pay index in France. Ulrik Knudsen (Deputy Secretary-General of the OECD) also discussed the policies to address this issue. Ragnheiður Elín Árnadóttir (Newly appointed Director of the OECD Development Centre) moderated the meeting.

Moreover, panelists such as Gabriela Ramos (Assistant Director-General for the Social and Human Sciences of UNESCO), Monika Queisser (Head of Social Policy Division at the OECD), Margrét V. Bjarnadóttir (Professor of Management Science & Statistics at the University of Maryland and Founder of PayAnalytics), and Christine Theodorovics (Chief Strategic Development Officer at AXA) are present in the meeting.

This event strengthens international cooperation between governments and the private sector and effectively addresses the gender pay gap.
