International and Swedish envoys call on Somali President

Mogadishu, 27 September 2021 (TDI): Said Abdullahi Deni, the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, met with Special Representative of UN to Somalia, James Swan; Ambassador of European Union in Somalia, Tiina Intelmann; the Swedish Ambassador to Somalia, Per Lindgärde, and Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission to discuss issues concerning women suffrage and peaceful election in Somalia.

The major reason for the conference was to discuss ways and means for a peaceful and fair election in the Federal Republic of Somalia. Along with it, all of the parties discussed women’s suffrage issues and committed to ensuring at least a 30% quota of women in Somali politics. 

Furthermore, issues related to the protection of political space were brought to light. Along with it, the attendees of the meeting portrayed support for one person, one vote. The economic development of Somalia was also tabled. Also, commitments for an improved security system in Puntland were also discussed.

Lastly, replying to Media on behalf of all international partners, the Special Representative of UNO, James Swan, termed a successful election an important event portraying the feasibility of one person one vote.

The President thanked all international partners of Somalia and displayed heartily support for peacekeeping and peaceful election in the country.
