JAFFNA INTERNATIONAL TRADE FAIR

Colombo, 24 January 2022 (TDI): The Indonesian Embassy in Colombo participated in an international trade fair in Jaffna, Sri Lanka’s Northern Province, on January 21-23, 2022 along with approximately 300 local and international companies.

Said mega trade fair has been organized by the Lanka Exhibition & Conference Services (Pvt) Ltd (LECS) in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce & Industries of Yarlpanam (CCIY). The International Business Council, Ministry of Industry & Commerce, and the Consulate General of India in Jaffna endorsed the Said International Trade Fair.

The Indonesian Embassy exhibited a variety of Indonesian products, both those that are already available in Sri Lanka and those that are expected to be exported in the Sri Lankan market. In the meanwhile, the Embassy promoted tourism in Indonesia by exhibiting the variety of diverse tourism destinations of Indonesia i.e. Bali, Borobudur, Lake Toba, Labuan Bajo, Riau Islands, and Raja Ampat.

Indonesian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Dewi Gustina Tobing, and her team met with the interested Companies to do business in Indonesia and made discussions in this regard. Ambassador revealed that possible opportunities and the collaboration for the strategic partnership are open for all in various sectors, i.e. Electric Motorcycle, Tyres manufacturing, Repairment of the Ships and their spare parts, Pharmaceuticals, Papers, Lubricants, coffee, and spices.

The Trade Fair has been surmised as the most anticipated platform for small and medium entrepreneurs to introduce their products. The event was noted as a multi-trade event in which industries, goods, and services from the Agriculture, Hospitality, Education, Food industries, Machinery, Construction, Consumer, Electronics, and Real Estate sectors were included.

INSEE Cement sponsored the event as the main sponsorer, while Ruhnu Foods, Mobitel (Pvt) Ltd, and Sun Match Company (Pvt) Ltd were part of the event. The trade fair exhibition continued for the consecutive three days, in which approximately 40 – 50 thousand visitors visited from different destinations in Sri Lanka.

The event’s proximity to the Jaffna Fort had endowed optimum visibility for the participant stallholders. The purpose of the JITF 2022 was to launch a program targeted at the Youth and Young Adults in Jaffna to instigate the propensity of the youth towards self-development and entrepreneurship.

This has been done to feature knowledge sharing, skill development, mentoring forums, job opportunities, and networking opportunities for budding entrepreneurs. In this regard, higher education institutions have also participated in the events’ long-standing education pavilion “Kalvi”.
