Brussels (TDI): Pakistan’s diplomatic delegation led by former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto has arrived in Brussels, headquarters of the European Union, to present Pakistan’s stance after visiting New York, Washington, and London.
Prime Minister Pakistan Shahbaz Sharif appointed the delegation to present Pakistan’s position on the May’s conflict and escalation with India, and to stress a permanent resolution of disputed Kashmir. The suspension of Indus Waters Treaty by India also constitutes a major agenda point during this diplomatic round around influential world capitals.
In Brussels, the delegation was welcomed by Pakistan’s Ambassador to the European Union, Belgium and Luxembourg Rahim Hayat Qureshi, upon arrival. The delegation held meetings with officials of the European Union and Belgium.

On Thursday, the Bilawal-led delegation had a meeting with the members of Belgian Senate and Chamber of Representatives which included the Vice Chair of Foreign Affairs Committee and Chair of Pakistan Belgium Parliamentary Friendship Group.
The delegation briefed them about the fragility of security in South Asia and informed that Pakistan is committed to peace and resolutions through dialogue and not domination.
Bilawal Bhutto, along with Federal Minister for Climate Change Senator Musadik Malik and former Foreign Secretary Ambassador Jalil Abbas Hilani met the Chair of the European Parliament’s International Trade (INTA) Committee, MEP Bern Lange, and conveyed Pakistan’s security concerns over India’s aggression, including the weaponization of water which risks a war.
“Despite the ceasefire, peace remains out of reach. Modi’s “new abnormal” equates any terror incident with war, while India rejects UNSC resolutions, mediations and dialogue”, Bilawal said.
The delegation also met with Vice Chair Foreign Affairs Committee of Belgian Parliament, Katleen Depoorter, and emphasized the importance of resolving the issue of Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, urging the European Union (EU) to help in upholding dialogue and peace diplomacy.
The Parliamentary delegation also had discussions with the Egmont, the Royal Institute of International Relations in Brussels, and established that Indian Prime Minister Modi’s strikes during the recent episode were a violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty.
The delegation is scheduled to meet with a few more EU officials and to engage with Brussels-based media before concluding the diplomatic round.
