Islamabad, 21 September 2021 (TDI): A virtual meeting is held to mark the inaugural of the U.S-Pak Climate and Environment Working Group. The purpose of this initiative is to work together to address the issue of climate change. It is a significant step in the green development vision of both countries.
Speaking at the occasion, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Climate Change (SAPM), Malik Amin Aslam, said that Prime Minister Imran Khan is committed to working for climate change and supports the global climate action initiatives. He welcomed the cooperation between the United States and Pakistan on climate change. Mr. Amin Malik also enumerated the programs Pakistan has initiated in this regard such as 10 billion Tree Tsunami, Clean Green Pakistan, E-Vehicle Policy, Nature Performance Bonds, and Recharge Pakistan. He further added that the world acknowledges Prime Minister Imran Khan’s efforts for climate change.
The U.S Chargé d’affaires Angela P. Aggelar virtually attended the session. She lauded Pakistan’s efforts for environmental protection especially the 10 billion Tree Tsunami and Clean Green Pakistan. She said that these programs create awareness among the public. They also demonstrate that Pakistan is an active player in the fight against climate change. She said that climate change is the cornerstone of U.S foreign policy. She enunciated all-out support of the U.S for Pakistan in this regard.
The partnership is a great milestone as well as a common ground of cooperation between the two states.
