Kyiv, 12 October 2021 (TDI):Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission , Charles Michel, president of the European Council, and Josep Borrell Fontelles, High Representative of the European Commission represented European Union (EU) today in the 23rd EU-Ukraine Summit held in Kyiv. Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine represented his country in the meeting.
Ursula Von der Leyen, emphasized the importance of EU relations with Ukraine. He further stated that the two partners will continue to cooperate with each other. He also reassured the commitment of the EU to Ukraine.
The EU attaches the utmost importance to its relations with Ukraine.
Together we have built a special partnership based on mutual solidarity and friendship.
We share a commitment to strengthening the political association and economic integration of Ukraine with the EU. More⤵️
Josep Borrell acknowledged the importance of Ukraine as a strategic partner of the EU. He reaffirmed the EU’s long-lasting support for the integrity of Ukraine. He also underlined the non-recognition approach of the EU on illegal annexation of Crimea.
The EU and Ukraine signed an agreement on the “Common Aviation Area”. It will provide new opportunities to Ukraine in European aviation markets. Ukraine will also start operating its direct flights to any part of the EU and vice versa. All the restrictions on Ukraine are removed under the new agreement. It will increase people-to-people contacts. It will also provide new trade opportunities to Ukraine and the EU members.
The EU and Ukraine also agreed to continue their cooperation in the time of humanitarian problems because of conflict. The EU appreciated the reforms taken by Ukraine. It also reassured its commitment to strengthening the economic and political association of Ukraine with the EU.
