PORTS MOUTH, September 05, 2024 (TDI): Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has agreed to the rules for her upcoming debate against Republican Donald Trump, including a provision to mute candidates’ microphones when they are not speaking.
The debate is scheduled for September 10 and will mark the first direct confrontation between Harris and Trump.
Harris, who became the Democratic candidate following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal after a poor debate performance in June, is looking forward to the debate.
The Harris campaign hopes that moderators from ABC News, who are hosting the event, will occasionally unmute the microphones to encourage more spontaneous dialogue.
The Harris campaign has been buoyed by recent polls showing her leading Trump, a shift from previous standings where Trump had the upper hand over Biden.

Trump adviser Jason Miller has expressed support for the debate format, emphasizing the importance of allowing both candidates to clearly present their visions to the American public.
Meanwhile, Democratic and Republican vice presidential candidates, Tim Walz and JD Vance, have agreed to their own debate on October 1, to be hosted by CBS News.
