Islamabad (TDI): A high-level five-member delegation of the Holland-based VEON Group led by its chairman Augie K Fabela met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at his office on Friday.
During the meeting, the prime minister emphasized that the government is committed to advancing the telecommunications sector in Pakistan. He said Pakistan aims to increase IT exports to $25 billion over the next three years.
“Efforts are underway to ensure fast mobile internet access in remote areas,” the premier said. He added that Pakistan was also taking steps to introduce 5G internet services for reliable and high-speed connectivity.

“I believe that 5G services will help achieve my ‘Digital Pakistan’ vision,” he said, as he underscored the important role of the telecom sector in promoting a cashless and digital economy in Pakistan.
The prime minister praised VEON’s subsidiary, Jazz Group, for its contributions to telecommunications and financial technology in Pakistan.
PM Shehbaz said the government was keen on working with VEON to promote IT, digitisation, and artificial intelligence in the country.

The delegation appreciated the government’s efforts to stabilize the economy. They noted that Pakistan has become a key destination for IT and telecom investment.
State Minister for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima, Minister of State for Finance and Revenue Ali Pervez Malik, the Prime Minister’s Coordinator Rana Ehsan Afzal, and senior government officials also attended the meeting.
