Gaza Hospital storming demands global response

-

Gaza, 16 November 2023 (TDI): The Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ministry has issued a resounding call for urgent international action following the egregious storming of the Gaza Hospital Shifa Medical Complex by the occupation army.

This brazen violation of international law demands swift and substantial responses from the global community.

Prime Minister Netanyahu’s dismissal of international reactions and his boastful admission regarding the storming of the Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza is an affront to human decency and international norms. The invasion of this vital medical facility not only challenges the credibility of the UN Security Council but also poses grave dangers to the sanctity of humanitarian spaces within conflict zones.

The Ministry strongly condemns the occupation army’s intrusive actions within the Shifa Medical Complex, emphasizing the blatant violation of established international law.

The alarmingly deceptive tactics employed by the occupying forces, including attempts to distort the humanitarian nature of the hospital’s services and fabricate false narratives to undermine its credibility, are deeply concerning.

It’s deeply troubling that the occupying soldiers, without any oversight or accountability, entered the hospital, maneuvering within its confines without transparency or regard for the lives and safety of patients and medical staff.

The imposition of closures and restrictions within the hospital, barring movement except for the occupying soldiers, further highlights the severity of the situation.

Of utmost concern is the confirmed detainment of civilians within the Al-Shifa Complex by the occupation soldiers, exploiting innocent lives as human shields. Despite Israeli claims, there’s been no credible confirmation that the hospital is devoid of such detentions or being used for military purposes.

While some nations have issued condemnations, it’s evident that mere statements aren’t enough to deter Netanyahu’s flagrant disregard for international outcry. His dismissive attitude toward warnings indicates a pressing need for a stronger, unified global response.

The Ministry urges an escalation of reactions, contemplating the imposition of international sanctions, individual sanctions against responsible officials, recourse to the International Criminal Court, or a resolution by the Security Council mandating a ceasefire.

It is imperative to break free from passive responses and take resolute actions that compel adherence to international humanitarian law and the laws of war, restraining Netanyahu and the occupying forces within the bounds of ethical conduct.

The Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ministry calls upon the international community to stand together in condemning these unlawful actions, ensuring that justice prevails and that humanitarian spaces remain untainted by conflict.

Moreover, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemns in the strongest terms the crime of the occupation targeting the vicinity of the Jordanian field hospital in Gaza, which led to the injury of seven hospital staff, and considers it an integral part of the brutal Israeli targeting of hospitals, medical staff, patients and wounded and exposing them to extreme danger, in a clear and heinous violation of international law and the Geneva Conventions.

The Ministry calls for clear international positions to condemn this crime and take the necessary measures to force the occupying state to abide by international humanitarian law to ensure the protection of Palestinian civilians and all centers that provide humanitarian services, especially hospitals and their staff.
