Bali, 15 November 2022 (TDI): In the wake of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the global economic downturn, the annual G20 summit began on Tuesday.

The most powerful emerging markets as well as the wealthiest countries in the world call for a unified response to the dangers.

The invasion of Ukraine by Russia, the US-China competition, and a rise in authoritarianism are threatening the world order as G20 leaders and the European Union (EU) met in Bali.

Food insecurity and rising inflation have been caused by the war. In this regard, leaders in their opening statements called for an end to the conflict. They also emphasized measures to reduce the rising prices of commodities like grain and oil.

In his remarks to the group, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky again urged Russia to promptly evacuate its soldiers. Sergey Lavrov, the Foreign Minister of Russia, is in Vladimir Putin’s place at the meeting.

Furthermore, Zelensky repeated his calls for accountability for Russian violations of international law. He further declared that until Ukraine’s territory was regained, resistance will continue.

In his words, “every day of delay means loss of lives of Ukrainians- and an increase in failures due to continuation of the Russian aggression.”

To prevent strained relations between China and the United States (US) from worsening further, Xi met with President Biden on the day of the summit.

Additionally, President Joko Widodo of Indonesia, who is hosting the summit, said to the leaders on Tuesday to “set aside our differences” and try to put an end to the conflict in Ukraine.

However, “being responsible means creating win-win, not zero-sum situations,” he said. “Being responsible here also means that we must end the war.”

Since the beginning of the pandemic, some of the top world leaders had not physically interacted with until the G20 Summit.
