Rawalpindi, 1 September 2024 (TDI): A heroic innings from Liton Das helped Bangladesh’s remarkable recovery to reduce the first innings deficit to just 12 on the second day of the second Test in Rawalpindi on Sunday.

Arriving at the crease when Bangladesh were struggling at 26/6, thanks to fire-breathing first spells from Khurram Shehzad and Mir Hamza. Both fast bowlers took 4, and 2 wickets respectively in the first 12 overs to leave Bangladesh struggling to avoid follow-on.

However, Liton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz put up a brilliant 165-run partnership for the 7th wicket to bring their team out of crisis.

Khurram struck twice in his third spell to remove Miraz and Taskin Ahmed to complete his first six-fer in Test cricket.

However, Liton Das continued to march on, scoring an invaluable 138 runs and completing his fourth Test hundred in the process. Mehidy also contributed with 78, while Hasan Mahmood scored 13 to take Bangladesh to 262.

Mir Hamza also bowled his heart out, finishing with figures of 16-1-50-2.

Before the close of play on Day 2, Pakistan had lost two wickets of Abdullah Shafique, and night watchman Khurram Shehzad. They lead Bangladesh by 21 runs.

Trailing the two-match series 0-1, Pakistan had earlier scored 274 runs in the first innings, thanks to fifties from Saim Ayub (58), Shan Masood (57), and Salman Ali Agha (54). The first day of the match was washed out due to rain.
