Paris, 28 October 2021 (TDI): French President, Emanuel Macron urged Australia to repair the ties. This was the first diplomatic overture ever since the falling out in the wake of AUKUS deal.
France and Australia have enjoyed historical diplomatic ties. The once strong and friendly bilateral relationship between the two is being rekindled now, as both the partners intend to improve the relations.
Consular and diplomatic engagement between France and Australia can be traced back to 1842. The two also collaborated in the World Wars I and II.
In the call French President, ahead of US Climate Change Summit, stressed over requirement of intensified efforts to re-establish ties between former allies.
President Macron also urged his counterpart to commit to reduce coal usage for power production. Both leaders reaffirmed to halt coal mining for the safety of environment.
