French Envoy Meets NGOs to Strengthen Pakistan Ties

Islamabad (TDI): France’s Ambassador to Pakistan Nicolas Galey hosted representatives from seven French NGOs that are actively working in Pakistan.

ACF Pakistan, Solidarités International, Médecins du Monde, Acted Pakistan, MSF Pakistan, Secours Islamique France, and Handicap International – Humanity & Inclusion were among the NGOs who attended the gathering.

The Ambassador acknowledged the significant contributions by these NGOs which focus on issues including environmental sustainability, women’s empowerment, healthcare, education, and humanitarian help.

Representatives also highlighted the difficulties they face when providing services to communities who are at risk.

In order to guarantee long lasting and successful outcomes, discussions also centred on how to deepen ties with regional stakeholders and governmental entities.

Furthermore, the event also showcased France and Pakistan’s long-standing alliance which is based on both their shared ideals of mutual understanding, development, and humanitarian assistance.

France has been actively involved in Pakistan’s development landscape for decades, with French NGOs playing an instrumental role in implementing grassroot initiatives into action that complement that strengthen the goals of both the countries.

In 2023, Médecins Sans Frontières Pakistan managed hepatitis C cases in Karachi, treated more than 11,000 patients for cutaneous leishmaniasis, and assisted with TB treatment in Punjab.

Moreover, after the disastrous monsoon rains, Secours Islamique France has been actively involved in flood relief activities.

They provided displaced families with food, water, and shelter, especially in the regions of Sindh and Balochistan.

Acted Pakistan also focused on areas affected by flooding through resilience-building and recovery.

This mainly includes distributing non-eatables, encouraging ventures that generate revenue, and enhancing communal infrastructure.

As the meeting concluded, the Ambassador reaffirmed France’s commitment to supporting the work of its NGOs in Pakistan and strengthening bilateral cooperation to address pressing socio-economic challenges.

The dialogue provided a platform to strategize more inclusive and sustainable solutions, ensuring that the partnership continues to thrive in the years ahead.
