Court Issues Arrest Warrants for KP CM

RAWALPINDI, (TDI): An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi on Saturday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and several other leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party.

The warrants are in connection with the attack on the General Headquarters (GHQ) of the army during the violent May 9 protests last year.

ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah directed the Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) to present all the accused individuals in court by December 10.

The leaders named in the warrants include PTI figures Shibli Faraz, Shehryar Afridi, Zain Qureshi, Tahir Sadiq, and Taimoor Masood.

This development follows the indictment of PTI founder Imran Khan and dozens of other party workers in the GHQ attack case earlier this week.

A total of 100 people, including former Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid, were indicted in the case, which was filed at the RA Bazar Police Station. Imran Khan, along with other indicted leaders, has denied the charges.

Over 143 individuals, including Khan, have been named as accused in the case, with 23, including Zulfi Bukhari, Shahbaz Gill, and Murad Saeed, listed as fugitives. All accused individuals have also been banned from traveling abroad.

At least 70 PTI leaders are accused of orchestrating the May 9 events, inciting party workers and supporters to attack military and government installations after the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

The May 9 riots were sparked by Khan’s arrest in the £190 million settlement case, leading to widespread protests across the country.

Hundreds of PTI workers and senior leaders were arrested for their involvement in the violence, including attacks on military installations.

The miscreants targeted key civil and military sites, including the Jinnah House and the GHQ in Rawalpindi.

The military labeled May 9 as a “Black Day” and decided to prosecute the protesters under the Army Act.
