Islamabad (TDI): As part of the Francophone Week, a Film Mela is kickstarting tomorrow at Cineplex Centaurus, Islamabad.
From April 19-27, the Film Mela will feature twelve films from French-speaking countries, with English and Urdu subtitles.
The Mela is part of a week long celebration of French language and French-speaking people, cultures, and countries.

Embassies of France, Romania, and Canada in Pakistan are actively advocating for the week and the Francophone Film Mela, by sharing trailers of the films which will be featured at the Mela.
Romania’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Dan Stoenescu, expressed enthusiasm that Romania, along with other countries, will officially open the Film Festival.
“Romania will have the honor to open Francophone Film Mela as part Francophonie2025 – on April 19 at Cineplex Centaurus Mall in Islamabad with the movie “The New Year That Never Came,” the Ambassador wrote in a post on X.
Embassies of France, Romania, and Canada also posted videos of the Ambassadors answering the question What is your favorite word in the French language and why as part of the Francophonie Week’s celebrations in Pakistan.

This year’s Francophonie week’s official dates are from April 15-23. French-speaking people celebrate this week every year with a variety of events and competitions.
The week has become a global cultural and linguistic celebration and Pakistan also takes part in different activities designed around this week.
The French Film Festival is happening for the very first time in Pakistan.
