France condemns latest Russian airstrikes on Ukraine

Paris, 23 August 2023 (TDI): France has publicly condemned the Russian strikes that have once again rocked villages near Lyman (Ukraine), resulting in the tragic loss of at least three innocent lives and leaving a further two individuals injured.

The strikes, seen as an alarming disregard for the lives of civilians and international humanitarian norms, have intensified concerns about Russia’s conduct since the commencement of hostilities against Ukraine.

These latest attacks, which targeted residential areas, underscore the recurring pattern of Russia’s blatant contempt for civilian lives and its continuous violation of international humanitarian law.

The incident marks another grim chapter in Russia’s aggressive actions against Ukraine and the escalation of its unrelenting assault on the principles of humanity and justice.

In addition to the strikes on populated areas, Russia also directed its aggression towards crucial grain infrastructure located in the Odesa region.

This calculated move is perceived as part of Russia’s larger strategy to manipulate global food security by systematically dismantling transit and storage facilities across Ukraine.

This calculated assault on Ukraine’s grain infrastructure adds to an existing series of actions that impede grain imports and further underscores the suspension of the Black Sea Grain Initiative.

The Black Sea Grain Initiative, a vital program that facilitated the transportation of 33 million tons of grain to 45 countries, specifically those in vulnerable regions of Asia and Africa, has been gravely disrupted due to these actions.

This disruption not only threatens global food security but also exacerbates the challenges faced by nations already struggling to provide sustenance to their populations.

Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Catherine Colonna, has steadfastly reiterated France’s stance on these grave matters. She firmly states that the recent attacks, deemed as war crimes, will not escape accountability.

France is unwavering in its commitment to provide steadfast support to Ukraine, as it has been condemning every airstrike on Ukrainian infrastructure.
