Paris, 30 August 2022 (TDI): As part of the King of Bahrain’s visit to France, the Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, Catherine Colonna, met with the Foreign Minister of Bahrain, Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, on Monday, in Paris.

Proceedings of the Meeting
During the meeting, both officials discussed the shared desire to boost the bilateral relationship between the states by strengthening cooperation on issues of common interest.
Minister Al Zayani of Bahrain congratulated Catherine Colonna on assuming her duties as the new Minister for European and Foreign Affairs. He also underscored the importance of the meeting between the King of Bahrain and the French President to further enhance bilateral relations.
The French Minister also noted that the visit by the King of Bahrain reflects the mutual desire of both countries to enhance cooperation. She underlined growing cooperation between the two countries and stressed France’s keenness to enhance relations with Bahrain.
She also affirmed the importance of holding the Joint Bahraini-French Committee in Paris this year.
The discussion also focused on ways to strengthen ongoing collaboration between the states and examined the status of agreements and memoranda between the two sides.
During the meeting, the officials also addressed regional and global issues of common concern.

France-Bahrain bilateral relations
In recent years, the bilateral diplomatic relations between France and Bahrain have intensified in various domains. Bahrain is increasingly looking to France to diversify its partnerships.
The King of Bahrain’s last visit to Paris on 30 and 31 April 2019, gave an impetus to the bilateral relations of both states. During that visit, three cooperation agreements were signed.
These include one on the training of Bahraini doctors in France and two cooperation protocols, on basic and higher education.
France is attentive to the human rights situation in Bahrain, including that of political opponents. It raises the subject during bilateral meetings with the country’s authorities.
