London, 15 August 2022 (TDI): Boris Johnson, the Former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (UK) extended his best wishes to Pakistan on the occasion of the 75th Independence Anniversary.

Moreover, the former Prime Minister shared, in the tweet, “I look forward to seeing our relationship strengthen yet further in the years ahead!”

Pakistan’s Diamond Jubilee

Pakistan emerged as a sovereign state on the 14th of August 1947 and commemorated the Diamond Jubilee of the 75th Independence Anniversary, yesterday. The Day holds extreme importance for Pakistani nationals.

Moreover, the people of Pakistan celebrated the state’s Diamond Jubilee with utmost enthusiasm and zeal. The day began with a 21-gun salute at the provincial headquarters and a 31-gun salute at the federal capital.

At dawn, special prayers were said at the mosque for the nation’s peace, unity, and prosperity. A ceremony to raise the national flag was the focal point of the festivities.

Similarly, the flag-raising ceremonies also took place across the nation at provisional, divisional, and district levels. Likewise, the Pakistani missions across the world hosted flag hoisting ceremonies and wished Pakistan on Independence Day.

Relations between Pakistan and the UK

Pakistan and the UK enjoy cordial relations which were established in 1947. This year the two states marked the 75th anniversary of their bilateral ties.

The relations between the two countries were institutionalized in 2011 with the establishment of Enhanced Strategic Dialogue (ESD). Additionally, the states collaborate in various sectors including education, science, technology, etc.

Apart from this, The United Kingdom is also Pakistan’s largest export partner in Europe, In 2021, total bilateral trade witnessed an increase of 27%, rising from US$2.337 billion in the year ending 31st Dec. 2020 to US$2.974 billion in the year ending 31st Dec. 2021.

Moreover, there have been frequent exchanges of visits between the two states to increase bilateral cooperation and strengthen the existing ties.
