Islamabad, 18 August 2022 (TDI): Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari held talks with Melanie Joly, Foreign Minister of Canada via a video call, on Wednesday.

Melanie Joly congratulated the Foreign Minister of Pakistan on his assumption of office. The Foreign Minister of Canada further added that she hoped ties between Pakistan and Canada would further strengthen and widen under his leadership.
Moreover, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto thanked her counterpart for her call and best wishes. He further highlighted that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two states.
The Foreign Minister of Pakistan added, that both countries were holding activities to celebrate this milestone occasion in a befitting manner.
Canadian Foreign Minister also stressed that the country was keen to solidify multi-faceted relations with Pakistan. Moreover, noting the situation in Afghanistan, she thanked Pakistan for its support in the evacuation process since August 2021.
Further, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister underscored that Pakistan had been facilitating the evacuations on a humanitarian basis. He also reiterated the need for scaled-up support from the international community in helping the people of Afghanistan and promoting stability in the country.
Moreover, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto acknowledged Canada’s humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan. Apart from this, he invited his counterpart to visit Pakistan. The Canadian Foreign Minister accepted the invitation
Lastly, the Foreign Minister of Pakistan also conveyed his cordial greetings and best regards to the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau.

Pakistan-Canada Relations
The two states enjoy cordially and friendly ties since the establishment of their diplomatic relations in 1947. Moreover, they also maintain strong trade relations. Canada is one of its largest export partners in Pakistan.
In 2018, the bilateral trade between the two countries was more than $800.0 million.
