Mogadishu, 5 October 2022 (TDI): The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Somalia, Abshir Omar Jama, received the Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan to the Federal Republic of Somalia, Khalafullah Mustafa Babker Abdullah at his office on 4 October.
The Ambassador of Sudan and the Foreign Minister of Somalia discussed the sum of the established historical relations between the two countries and the peoples of the two countries during the meeting.
The meeting also highlighted bilateral relationships and cooperation in all areas of shared importance.
Moreover, the security and political developments in Somalia and humanitarian efforts to end the horrible extreme drought to prevent deadly starvation were also discussed during the meeting.

Apart from this, the Minister and the Ambassador discussed the strengthening of the traditional relationship between Somalia and Sudan and how to cooperate in education, economy, and general security of the region.
The security situation in Somalia
The security situation in Somalia has not been good in recent times. The most recent incident was the takeover of Hayat hotel in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, by armed attackers. Two car bombs followed by gunfire killed 10 people in the hotel.
Sudan-Somalia bilateral relations
Both countries have close bilateral relations in the region. In 2018, Somalia exported $166k to Sudan and during the last 23 years, the exports of Somalia to Sudan have increased at an annualized rate of 4.68%, from $58.1k in 1995 to $166k in 2018.
Similarly, In 2018, Sudan exported $1.31M to Somalia but during the last 23 years, the exports of Sudan to Somalia have decreased at an annualized rate of 4.58%, from $3.85M in 1995 to $1.31M in 2018.
Both countries have also agreed to establish comprehensive security and economic partnership to promote stability in Somalia.
