New York, 26 September 2022 (TDI): Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), Faisal bin Farhan addressed the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

During the address, he mentioned Saudi Arabia’s commitment to human rights matters. He also addressed regional security and Kingdom’s efforts to promote International peace.

Address by KSA’s Foreign Minister

Minister Faisal bin Farhan stated, “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia renews its call to reform the Security Council to be more just in representing our reality today, and more effective in keeping pace with the changes and developments of the international community.”

While mentioning regional security, he said, “The Middle East region needs to combine efforts to consolidate security and stability and provide a better future that meets the aspirations of our peoples for development and prosperity.”

He further added, “International peace and security cannot be achieved with the arms race, we call on the international community to work to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons.

We stress the importance of the international community to stand firm against countries that support and sponsor terrorism and extremism and attempt to use extremist ideology to expand and destroy.”

He concluded his address by saying “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will remain supportive of international peace efforts.” He added, “The Kingdom is committed to gradual and responsible change towards diversified energy sources that are more sustainable.”

UNGA 77th Session

The 77th Session of UNGA commenced on 13th September 2022 by the President of the Session, Csaba Kőrösi. The session is being held at UN Headquarters in New York.

The high-level debates week formally started on 20th September and last till 26th September. Along with Saudi Arabia, leaders from all the member states including Pakistan, the Republic of Turkiye, the United States, and Qatar are participating in the session.
