New York, 24 September 2021 (TDI): Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi virtually attended the Uniting For Consensus Ministerial meeting held today 2021.
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood reiterated in his address Pakistan’s commitment towards peace in the world. He has also mentioned Pakistan’s continued reforms in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) that are comprehensive and are built on the principles of democracy, accountability, equity, and transparency.

UFC is also known as the Coffee Club. It was founded in 1995 by Italy, Pakistan, Egypt and Mexico. Turkey, Argentina, Malta, South Korea, Canada, and Spain are also its core member states. It aims to oppose any possible extension in the permanent seats of the Security Council as proposed by G4 countries (Brazil, Germany, India, and Japan). The G4 nations want to acquire a permanent seat for themselves in the SC. Whereas the UFC group calls for a consensus in any future deliberations on the form and size of the SC. They proposed to increase the seats of non-permanent members of the SC from ten to twenty.
The Security Council currently has fifteen members. Among them, five are permanent members (United States, Great Britain, France, Russia, and China), and ten are non-permanent members. The newly-elected non-permanent members for the two-year term are Estonia, India, Ireland, Kenya, Mexico, Niger, Norway, Saint Vincent, and the Grenadines, Tunisia, and Viet Nam.
