Foreign Minister of Lithuania meets Portuguese Counterpart

Lisbon, 29 September 2021(TDI): The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Gabrielius Landsbergis met the Foreign Minister of the Portuguese Republic, Augusto Santos Silva.

The foreign ministers of both countries discussed the events in Belarus. The foreign ministers agreed to have further consultations on the topic and adopt a united approach. Both ministers reiterated their commitment to Human Rights.

The ministers also expressed the need for Europe to adopt a unified policy with respect to China. In light of recent defence deals between the USA, UK, and Australia, and the QUAD Summit, EU members are considering their options vis-a-vis China.

With regards to European Union (EU) migration policy, both ministers discussed the feasibility of accommodating migrants in the aftermath of the pandemic. Lithuania has recently opened its borders for tourism and for migrants.

The Lithuanian Foreign Minister expressed his gratefulness to Portuguese pilots who are currently protecting Lithuanian airspace. Both countries enjoy close defence ties.
