Putrajaya, 15 August 2022 (TDI): The Foreign Minister of Malaysia, YB Dato’ Sri Saifuddin Abdullah, will welcome his counterpart from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bisera Turkovic, in conjunction with her inaugural visit to Malaysia from 15 to 16 August 2022.

During the Bosnian War, Malaysia raised concern over human rights abuses in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1993. In 1995, Malaysian troops were dispatched to the UN Peacekeeping Operations.
Malaysia also called the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to establish measures and assist the newly independent states. Since then, both states have developed their bilateral relations. Moreover, Malaysia has also acknowledged Bosnia and Herzegovina’s independence.
Malaysia and Bosnia and Herzegovina to deepen bilateral relations
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia shared in a press release the announcement of the visit of the Foreign Minister of Bosnia.
Malaysia has strong historical footsteps in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s nationhood. Ministers Bisera Turkovic and YB Dato’ Sri Saifuddin Abdullah will meet in Malaysia to evaluate the current state of the multifaceted and long-lasting relations between Malaysia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The two Foreign Ministers will also discuss other bilateral, regional, and global matters of common interest.
Both Foreign Ministers will discuss capacity-building initiatives between the two states to strengthen their partnership. The two sides will exchange Diplomatic Notes on the establishment of a bilateral consultation mechanism to improve trust between the two states.
Moreover, the visit will also add to Malaysia’s significant historical contributions to the nationhood of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Malaysia and Bosnia and Herzegovina’s economic ties
The two countries bilateral trade is continuously expanding. Malaysia exports electronics and electrical products to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bosnia and Herzegovina’s exports to Malaysia include furniture and aluminum.
Additionally, both nations collaborate in the halal food and agricultural sectors. Malaysia has opened three Islamic bank offices in Bosnia since 2010. The upcoming commemoration of 30 years of diplomatic relations between the two states will be held on 5 December 2022.
