Hanoi, 15 August 2022 (TDI): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Bui Thanh Son.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani is on an official visit to Vietnam from August 14-15.

The visit is made at the invitation of the Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son.

During the meeting, they reviewed bilateral cooperation relations between the two countries. Both ministers discussed cooperation in the fields of investment, economy, and agriculture.

Furthermore, they also discussed a number of regional and international issues of common interest. Following this, they also signed an agreement on the exemption of holders of diplomatic and special passports from entry visas.

Qatar – Vietnam Relations

Vietnam and Qatar established diplomatic relations on February 8, 1993. The Embassy of the State of Qatar in Hanoi was opened on 25 January 2010. The first Qatari Resident Ambassador in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam was appointed on 2011.

Both the State of Qatar and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam wish to develop the relations between the two countries and push them to higher levels.

The field of investment is of special interest to the officials of both countries. The Socialist Republic of Vietnam pays special attention to Qatari investors.

Furthermore, Qatar and Vietnam aim to develop cooperation in the field of security after the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime entered into force.

There is also cooperation between the two countries in the field of education. The State of Qatar offers scholarships to several Vietnamese students to study Arabic. The two countries are working closely together to strengthen cooperation in this field.
