Istanbul, 9 June 2024 (TDI): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar met with the Foreign Minister of Türkiye, Hakan Fidan, on the margins of the Extraordinary Meeting of the D-8 CFM held in Istanbul, Türkiye.

The D-8 is the Organisation for Economic Cooperation, an alliance of developing nations of Turkiye, Malaysia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Iran, Nigeria, and Indonesia. On Saturday, they demanded full Palestinian membership of the United Nations and greater international pressure on Israel for a ceasefire amid the Gaza war.

While addressing the meeting of the D-8 Council of Foreign Ministers, Pakistan’s deputy prime minister and foreign minister Ishaq Dar strongly condemned the use of hunger and starvation as a weapon of war by the Israeli forces.

Dar urged the international community to take action to stop this collective punishment unleashed on the Palestinians and help ensure an immediate ceasefire and unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

He emphasized D-8 to use its political as well as economic leverage at all the relevant international fora to end the suffering of the Palestinian people.

He added, “Through the D-8 platform we may coordinate humanitarian assistance for the people of Gaza, and play a role in the rebuilding efforts once the aggression ends,”
