Canada, 5 August 2021 (TDI): On Wednesday, Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marc Garneau expressed condolence about the 2020 Beirut explosion that occurred a year ago flattened half of Beirut city.
In his tweet, Mr. Marc said, “Today, Canada remembers the human tragedy that happened a year ago in the Port of Beirut.” He also expressed that Canada stands with the Lebanese people and an investigation of the explosion must take place.
On, 4 August 2020, when this incident occurred, Canada provided financial aid to Lebanon of approximately US $38 million, as both countries have strong ties and diplomatic relations. The explosion will be remembered in history because of the huge loss of 218 lives and injuries of 7500 people.
