Peshawar (TDI): Tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border eased on Friday morning after a night of heavy clashes, following what Pakistani officials described as unprovoked attacks by Afghan Taliban forces in the South Waziristan Lower region.
An intense exchange of fire erupted along the border overnight, but the situation calmed by dawn. Pakistani forces launched a swift and coordinated counter-operation targeting multiple Taliban positions across the border in Afghanistan’s Paktia province.
During the operation, Pakistani troops reportedly seized five strategic Afghan checkposts, raising the national flag at each site. Among the captured positions were two opposite Shawal, two in the Angoor Adda sector, and one opposite Zarmilan, officials confirmed.

The military action aimed to restore stability in the sensitive border region and deter further hostile activities. Pakistani forces also reportedly destroyed an Afghan terminal near Angoor Adda believed to be used for military purposes.
Security officials noted that Afghan Taliban elements suffered significant losses during the engagement, with key positions such as the Charlie Post and Babri Post in the Angoor Adda sector being completely destroyed. Authorities emphasized that the response was defensive, intended to protect Pakistan’s territorial integrity and preempt cross-border threats.
