Moscow, 11 August 2021 (TDI): A virtual conference of representatives of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) members was held today. The conference was organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) secretariat, the Moscow State University of Food Industry (MGUP), the FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia, the FAO Office for Relations with the Russian Federation, and the Assembly of Eurasian Nations.
Representatives from Uzbekistan, China, Russia, FAO, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, and SCO secretariat participated in the debate. Chairman of Pakistan Agriculture Research Council M Azeem Khan represented Pakistan in the virtual debate. Representatives highlighted major food and agriculture challenges in their respective countries. Interlocutors shared methods to improve food security in the region and discussed prospects of enhanced cooperation in the food and agricultural sector. Issues regarding the development of National Food Systems were also addressed in the meeting.
This event will hold a significant position in the forthcoming UN Summit on Food Systems 2021.
