Islamabad, 2 May 2023 (TDI): During the inauguration of a three-day photo exhibition of Islamic Heritage in Hungary organized by the National Assembly Secretariat in collaboration with the Hungarian Embassy in Parliament House, Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, Raja Pervez Ashraf, spoke about the rich Islamic traditions exhibited in the event.
He also acknowledged the peaceful co-existence between the Muslim and Christian communities in Hungary, which is reflected in the exhibition’s photos of the Islamic heritage of Hungary.
Ashraf highlighted the Ottoman Empire’s history, saying that Hungary was unique compared to other parts of the empire due to economic, social, and cultural reasons.
He further stated that the Hungarian Parliament adopted a law in 1916 that granted Islam the status of a legally recognized religion in Hungary, demonstrating peaceful co-existence between the two communities.
He also praised the cooperation between the Hungarian and Turkish governments in preserving the Islamic cultural heritage of the Ottoman Empire in Hungary. Ashraf expressed hope that the exhibition would enhance mutual ties between the two nations.
Mehnaz Akbar Aziz, the Convener of the Pakistan-Hungary Parliamentary Friendship Group, expressed her gratitude to Ashraf for promoting inclusivity in Parliament and appreciated Hungary’s initiative to enhance educational scholarships for Pakistani students.
She also praised Hungary’s efforts to promote inclusivity regardless of religion, which is in line with Pakistan’s constitution.
Hungarian Ambassador Bela Fazekas thanked Ashraf for organizing the exhibition and spoke about Hungary’s rich history of Ottoman architecture in a non-Muslim European cultural environment.

He highlighted the well-preserved and renovated minarets, mosques, and tombs built by the finest artists of the era, representing the rich Ottoman Islamic architectural heritage. Fazekas stressed the importance of parliament-to-parliament contacts in enhancing ties between the two nations.
Turkish Ambassador Mehmet Pacaci spoke about the mix of Eastern and Western elements in Ottoman architecture in Hungary and congratulated Fazekas for exhibiting the commendable exhibition in the National Assembly of Pakistan.
He thanked Ashraf and the National Assembly Secretariat for organizing the exhibition, which enabled visitors to be a part of Islamic history.
The Exhibition of Islamic Heritage inauguration ceremony was attended by parliamentarians, members of the diplomatic community, and media representatives.
