Paris, 16 September 2021 (TDI): Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, will discuss with Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, a Belarusian human rights activist and politician, the political crisis in Belarus and components of its civil society on Wednesday, September 15.
Since August 9, 2020, France and its European partners have had four rounds of sanctions responding to Belarusian’s brutal crackdown against its civil society.
As the situation in Belarus worsens, Le Drian reaffirms France’s support for the Belarusian people’s democratic aspirations and response to the recent exploitation of migrant movements. France also reiterates the hope of establishing a national dialogue in Belarus to free and fair elections under international supervision.
