Munich, 22 August 2022 (TDI): The second edition of the European Championships featuring nine Olympic sports concluded on Sunday in Munich.

The European Championship 2022 held from 11 August to 21 August was the biggest sports event organized and hosted in Germany since the 1972 Summer Olympics. The first successful launch of the European Championships took place in Glasgow in 2018.


About European Championships 2022

The European Championship comprised nine sports under one roof. These included Athletics, Beach Volleyball, Canoe Sprint, Cycling, Gymnastics, Rowing, Sports Climbing, Table Tennis and Triathlon.

Moreover, for the Championship, the best athletes in Europe competed for the highest accolade of sports in Europe, the title of ‘European Champion.’

In addition, more than 4,700 athletes from over 50 nations participated in the championships competing for 177 medals. Furthermore, Olympia park became the centrepiece of the European Championships 2022 hosting multiple sports.

The European Athletic Chairman, Svein Arne Hansen said, “I speak for all the participating sports in saying how delighted we are going back to Munich in 2022, and for athletes, we are especially happy to be heading back to Germany after the success of Berlin 2018, where we know there are so many passionate sports fans.”

Out of over 50 nations participating, Germany and Great Britain topped the medals table with a total of 60 medals in total. Whereas Italy secured the 3rd position. Moreover, the other countries which also secured the most medals include France, Hungary, Spain, Netherlands, Poland, Romania and Greece.

Lastly, Germany, also the host nation, lifted the trophy of the European Champions 2022 Nations Trophy.
