EU, Jordan Sign €3B Partnership Deal

Brussels (TDI): Jordan signed 3 billion euro Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership Agreement with the European Union on Thursday.

This financial investment affirms the European Union’s support to Jordan to face challenges in the Middle East.

Commissioner of the Mediterranean, Dubravka Suica, signed the agreement with Jordan and said “Today’s successful milestone in our relationship with Jordan is a sign that shared values and interests can bring concrete results on the ground.”

Suica further said that this strategic and comprehensive partnership will increase security, stability and economic opportunities for Jordan and the EU, directly benefitting our citizens.

“I am ready to mobilise every tool at my disposal to bring today’s commitments into reality,” she added.

A bilateral meeting was held between the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and Jordan President King Abdullah II after the signature ceremony of the joint cooperation.

Ursula von der Leyen said in a post on X  that “ Jordan’s resilience and commitment to stability in the Middle East are remarkable, Europe is firmly by your side.”

The financial package to Jordan for 20250-2027 of 3 billion euro includes 640 million euro in grants, 140 billion euro as investments and 1 billion euro in the form of concessional loans as macro- financial assistance.

This cooperation aims at tackling the common challenges and working on common interests of the EU and Jordan in the Middle East.

The key areas of interest of this partnership are political relations, regional cooperation, security and defence, economic well-being, trade and investments, human capital and support to refugees.

Jordan and the European Union already enjoy long and historically deep cooperation in the form of EU-Jordan association agreement and this new partnership will enhance their bilateral relations.
