EU and France express solidarity with victims of 2020 Beirut blast

Brussels: August 04, 2021- (TDI): Today Beirut marks its one year since the tragic blast that occurred in Beirut Lebanon.  1 year ago, the catastrophic explosion devastated the capital city of Lebanon. It was one of the biggest non-nuclear explosions in the world ever recorded. Almost 200 people died and thousands were injured during this blast.

Whereas the European Commission continues to stand and support the Lebanese people. Ralph Tarraf the EU’s ambassador to Lebanon shared on Twitter that they bow their heads and honor the lives lost during the Beirut blast. It is a painful reminder of the sorrow held so deeply, as Lebanon grapples to heal. He asked his audience to remember their names and the life they lived.

The EU Commission is allocating approximately € 5.5 million as humanitarian aid to help strengthen the Covid 19 response in Lebanon. The initial allocation was €50 million as humanitarian aid.

Emmanuel Macron the President of France stated that France is considerate towards the Lebanese people in these tragic times. It is also demanding. With the international community, France has taken its responsibilities. It is the Lebanese leaders’ turn to take theirs. The interests of the Lebanese must come first.
