Kyrgyz Foreign Minister and EU Ambassador's farewell meeting

Bishkek, 15 July 2022 (TDI): The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, Zheenbek Kulubaev held a farewell meeting with the Head of the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to the Kyrgyz Republic, Eduard Auer on Thursday.

During the meeting on the occasion of the completion of Ambassador Auer’s diplomatic mission, both sides discussed the prospects of a relationship between Kyrgyzstan and the EU.

In addition, they exchanged opinions about the progress of the projects and programs developed under the Multi-Year Indicative Program.

They also discussed the positive influence that the projects had on public administration, education, and the development of the green economy.

Equal importance was given to the issue of international and regional politics as well as security concerns.

At the end of the meeting, the Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan thanked Auer for his fruitful work in Bishkek. He wished him success in his future activities as well.

In a similar manner, the Ambassador also expressed gratitude for the support Kyrgyzstan has shown.

He concluded that Kyrgyzstan was one of the privileged partners of the EU. He further added that there are various opportunities for the enhancement of bilateral relations between the EU and Kyrgyzstan.

Kyrgyzstan’s relations with the EU

Both Kyrgyzstan and the EU have been upholding good relations. The political foundations of their relationship were set in 1999 by the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA).

The Kyrgyz Republic is also one of the partners in the new European Union Strategy on Central Asia, adopted in 2019

The EU Mission in Kyrgyzstan works for democracy, rule of law, liberty, and human rights upholding.

Notably, the EU holds annual political dialogues with Kyrgyzstan. Also, the Cooperation Council, at the level of Foreign Ministers, focuses chiefly on political matters, trade, economic, and investment issues. As well as regional and international issues.

Consequently, the establishment of the organization of the first EU-Central Asia Economic Forum in 2021, in Bishkek aimed to provide opportunities to boost trade and investment.

Specifically between Central Asia and the EU to boost economic recovery in the post-Covid era. Even today, the two parties are in close connection for coordination and strengthening of relations.
