Estonian Foreign Minister met newly appointed Foreign Secretary of United Kingdom

London, 11 October 2021 (TDI): Eva-Maria Liimets, the Estonian Foreign Minister met with Liz Truss, the newly appointed foreign secretary of United Kingdom. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the visit of Foreign Ministers of the Baltic states (Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania).

Its been thirty years of the independence of Baltic states and Britain did a lot for their independence and integrity. The time of the visit of foreign ministers of Baltic states to the UK is also very important as Foreign Ministers of NATO will be meeting in Riga, Latvia in the upcoming month.

 

The United Kingdom has been a big ally of Estonia and the Baltic states. Estonia and the United Kingdom share close relations. It is the leading nation of the NATO group working in Estonia for security purposes. The Estonian foreign minister emphasized stronger bilateral relations between the two countries. She expressed that the two countries will continue to cooperate in their global commitments of freedom and human rights.

Both officials also agreed on enhancing the economic cooperation which will help to strengthen their bilateral relations. They committed to expanding their cooperation in the fields of digital and cyber technology.

Furthermore, the issues of illegal migration, promoting democracy, and steps to increase investment were also discussed. The crisis of Belarus has created migration problems in Europe due to which many countries are concerned about increasing illegal migration.
