She added that “The Kremlin has one big aim: terrorize and fulfill the imperialist dream. They threaten the world with famine and a nuclear disaster. They are waging an energy war.”
Further, she said, “the Kremlin wants negotiations because then they can get something they didn’t have to begin with. That is why we cannot give in one inch.
Estonian Prime Minister emphasized, “If we do not counter Russian aggression and expansionism decisively and bring those behind it to justice, the whole international rules-based order would be under threat.
That means no country and no nation could feel safe. We are living in a time of war, and we must adapt accordingly.”
In addition, she talked about containment policy. She stated, “Over this past year, I have advocated for a long-term policy of smart containment toward Russia. This means four things. First, we’ve been on the right track by supporting Ukraine.
Our support takes Ukraine closer to victory – and therefore to peace. Our focus must be on scaling-up aid and weapons deliveries. Estonia has contributed up to 0.8% of our GDP to assisting Ukraine.
Second, Russia has to be held accountable for its war of aggression, aggression crimes, and war crimes. Perpetrators must be held responsible.
Third, we need to raise the cost of aggression by continuing to tighten sanctions and isolating Russia internationally. Fourth, NATO’s new forward defense posture must be ironclad.”
Prime Minister of Estonia in her concluding remarks said, “In Madrid, the Alliance decided to significantly strengthen its defense and deterrence on the Eastern flank. The work has started and significant progress should be made before the next Summit in Vilnius.”
