Islamabad, 6 July 2023 (TDI): In a recent statement, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Islamabad praised the Government of Pakistan for its decision to introduce and celebrate July 7th, 2023, as the Day of Honoring the Holy Quran.

Recognizing the significance of this initiative, the Embassy emphasized the importance of respecting sacred texts and symbols, while condemning any act of desecration or insult.

Incident of Quran Burning in Sweden

On the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha, an Iraqi Christian burned the Quran (the Holy Book of Muslims) outside a Stockholm mosque last week. This act brought international commendations and bans toward Sweden for allowing the burning of the Quran.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, announced July 7th, 2023, Friday, as the Day of Honoring the Holy Quran while the parliament of Pakistan will discuss the Quran burning issue.

Denouncing Acts of Desecration

Desecrating the Holy Quran, the revered book of the world’s largest religious community, or showing disrespect towards any sacred symbol of divine religions, is considered deplorable, ignorant, and biased by the Embassy of Iran. Such actions are intended to incite public opinion and exploit freedom of expression for malicious purposes.

Threat to Religious Harmony

The Embassy emphasized that the desecration of the Holy Quran is an affront to the holy books of all divine religions. It firmly believes that biased actions aimed at inciting public opinion only serve to generate instability, violence, and hatred. By insulting sacred symbols, the perpetrators seek to destabilize the Muslim world, create legal disputes, and sow the seeds of ideological conflicts.

Global Call to Action

Calling for unity and denouncing this heinous act, the Embassy of Iran extended an invitation to faithful individuals and free thinkers worldwide to join forces in countering such actions.

Effective Strategies for Rectification

The Embassy highlighted the necessity of employing coordinated and unifying approaches to address the current situation. These approaches include clarification, explanation, education, legal procedures, and dialogue. By adopting constructive measures, it is possible to rectify the state of affairs and restore respect for the Holy Quran and other sacred texts.

Wholehearted Support from Iran

The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran expressed its wholehearted support for the commendable initiative undertaken by the friendly and brotherly government of Pakistan in designating July 7th, 2023, as the day to Honor the Holy Quran. This joint effort will foster understanding, harmony, and reverence towards religious beliefs, promoting a more peaceful and tolerant society.
