Phnom Penh, 1 April 2023 (TDI): Egypt is considering establishing an Embassy in Cambodia to strengthen ties and encourage cooperation.

Cambodian Foreign Minister, Prak Sokhonn, steered a Cambodian delegation to the Arab Republic of Egypt from March 29-30, 2023. Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry requested this sit-over.

In response to the growing ties, Sameh Shoukry informed Prak Sokhonn that Egypt would contemplate opening an embassy in Phnom Penh.”

During the bilateral talks on March 30, Prak Sokhonn and Sameh Shoukry expressed their appreciation for the advancement of the long-standing friendship.

The cooperation relation is established with the aid of Cambodia’s Late King Father Norodom Sihanouk and Egypt’s Late President Gamal Abdel Nasser.

Both Foreign Ministers agree that bilateral consultations between the two ministries of foreign affairs are to be considered as a mechanism for exploring methods and means to advance and strengthen ties in all areas.

In this regard, both sides agreed to push for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in the immediate future.

Cambodia encouraged Egypt to take advantage of the many leading agreements. These include ASEAN Free Trade Agreement, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, Cambodia-Korea free trade agreements, and Cambodia’s new investment legislation.

Cambodia and Egypt dedicated their intentions to multilateralism. Both nations also aim to obtain Global peace and security in the region. So for this, mutual support for International Organizations and Peacekeeping Operations is an important factor.

Both considered holding consultations between their ministries to explore ways to improve ties in all areas. Cambodia and Egypt to expand multilateralism. Both countries need to tie their knots to obtain global peace and security.
