Washington (TDI): US officials have detected unidentified drones flying over army base Fort McNair in Washington, where senior officials including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth reside, according to a report by The Washington Post.

Citing sources familiar with the matter, the newspaper said authorities have so far been unable to determine the origin of the drones.

The incidents prompted internal discussions about possibly relocating the two officials as a precaution. However, both Rubio and Hegseth have remained at the base, a senior administration official said.

The report comes amid heightened security concerns in Washington linked to the ongoing US-Israeli conflict with Iran. Officials are said to be closely monitoring potential threats as tensions continue to rise.

There has been no official confirmation of the report. The Pentagon and the US State Department did not respond to requests for comment, while chief Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell declined to discuss the matter in detail, the paper added.

“The department cannot comment on the secretary’s movements for security reasons,” Parnell said, adding that reporting on such matters was “irresponsible.”
