Phnom Penh, 4 May 2023 (TDI): Cambodia’s Prime Minister, Hun Sen, has urged Laos to sign a double taxation agreement with his government to encourage business between the adjacent countries.

According to Eang Sophalleth, Personal Assistant to Hun Sen, the Cambodian Premier proposed a bilateral conference with visiting Thongloun Sisoulith, President of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, at the Peace Palace on May 4, 2023.

The Cambodian Prime Minister also thanked Dr. Thongloun Sisoulith for accepting the invitation to the 32nd Southeast Asian Games opening ceremony and agreed with the Lao President’s assessment of the bilateral ties between the two nations.

Dr. Thongloun Sisoulith, for his part, praised the relationship between Cambodia and Laos and emphasized that what needs to be done next is to collaborate to advance this relationship by putting into effect the current agreements and seeking further cooperation in the fields of the tourism industry, investments, security, and joint preparedness for natural disasters.

The senior official of Laos voiced his excitement about attending the SEA Games 2023 Opening Ceremony and his belief that Cambodia’s hosting of the regional competition will be a success, with the Kingdom taking home many gold medals.

On the advice of  Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, a high-level delegation from Laos headed by President Thongloun Sisoulith arrived in Phnom Penh on 4 May 2023.

Dr. Thongloun Sisoulith was welcomed and given a royal audience by The King of Cambodia. The late Cambodian King-Father Norodom Sihanouk, also known as “Preah Borom Ratanak Kaudh,” had his royal memorial statue and the Independence Monument both receive wreaths from the president of Laos.

Thongloun Sisoulith will attend the Morodok Techo National Stadium’s opening ceremony for the 32nd Southeast Asian Games and the 12th ASEAN Para Games, which will be held there from May 5 to 17 and June 3-9.
