Donald Trump Sworn in As 47th US President

He is the 47th president of the United States.

“I, Donald John Trump, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States and will to the best of my ability preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States,” he said, as he took the oath.

During his inaugural address, Trump promised to usher in the “golden age of America” and to put “America first” during his four-year term.

He also highlighted a series of executive orders he’d pass and actions he would take on his first day in office, including a country-wide crackdown on illegal immigrants.

The inauguration ceremony in Washington DC was originally scheduled to take place outdoors, as usual – but was later moved indoors due to due to harsh weather.

Earlier, President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden welcomed President-elect Donald Trump as he arrived at the White House.

“Welcome home!” the outgoing Democratic president said as Trump arrived for a courtesy visit at the White House ahead of the inauguration.

The two presidents walked in together, followed by their wives.

Meanwhile, the US flags flew at full-staff on Monday to honour the incoming president, Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson has said.

The flags will go back to half-staff from tomorrow to continue honouring late US President Jimmy Carter, who passed away last month at the age of 100.
