Islamabad, 10 February 2023 (TDI): A delegation from Ningbo University, China visited International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) on Thursday. They held a meeting with the President of IIUI Hathal Homoud Alotaibiand and with the scientists of the Faculty of Sciences.

Xinmin Liu, Professor at the Institute of Drug Discovery and Technology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and World Health Organisation (WHO) Expert on Herbal Medicines, headed the Chinese delegation.

Associate Professor Xiang Ning, Associate Professor Yan Wang, and Professor Atia-ul-Wahab accompanied him.

This high-level academic visit was organized with the efforts of Professor Muhammad Riaz from the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Basic Sciences (CIRBS), IIUI.

Overview of meeting

During the meeting, Professor Muhammad Irfan Khan, Dean, Faculty of Sciences, IIUI gave the welcome briefing. It was followed by the presentation of Professor Xinmin Liu.

Then Professor Muhammad Riaz presented the focused areas of collaboration and partnership. He shared courses and teaching, joint research supervisions, joint R&D projects, and researcher’s exchanges between universities.

The main areas of collaboration include medicinal chemistry and industrial biotechnology with CIRBS and a joint project with the Centre for Advanced Electronics & Photovoltaic Engineering (CAEPE).

Both sides vowed to enhance bilateral cooperation in the field of natural Sciences and agreed to work together on joint projects.

The participants decided to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and establish a Framework between IIUI and Ningbo University.

Talking with the delegation, Hathal Homoud Alotaibi, said that collaboration and partnership is a precious opportunities for both Universities.

He further highlighted that IIUI is a leading international university, especially hosting hundreds of Chinese students, which is another opportunity for expansion.

The President offered his full support to the joint initiative and appreciated the ongoing progress between both universities.

In his turn, Xinmin Liu and Professor Liu Yu from Ningbo University stressed for further expanding the joint academic teaching, research, projects, and researcher and faculty exchanges between the two renowned universities.

In this vein, Professor Liu said he found immense pleasure in this opportunity for shared teaching, research supervision, project, and exchanges.

Additionally, Shuja Ahmed Syed, Vice President (R&E), IIU encouraged this initiative with his full support. In the end, the President of IIUI presented a shield to Professor Xinmin Liu.
